Gift Ideas For The First Seven Years Of Your Wedding Anniversary

By: Jonathan Burrell

Wedding anniversaries are a great time to celebrate the moment that have been spent together over a year with the one you love. It's not easy being with someone for an extended period and you should show your appreciation for their time with you. Deciding on gifts for this person is not always easy and you want to give gifts that truly say I care about you. These gifts are usually based on traditional themes.

Tradition dictates the anniversary gifts that you give. They are normally grouped by how long you've been with the person. The 1st anniversary normally is a paper-based gift and can be anything from a memorabilia that documents your first year together; a pack of cards or a newspaper that was printed on the day you got married in the town you got married in. You could also write a heartfelt letter too since this is also paper-based as well.

If you want to follow tradition then cotton or straw is the theme for your anniversary gift. You probably will have to search for a while to come up with straw-based gifts but you can be creative and give a lovely straw hat in addition to a stay in a straw hut on a tropical island in the Caribbean, for instance, and enjoy the surroundings. Cotton is also a choice for the second anniversary and you could give a handmade signature sweater made of cotton as one of your gifts.

The third year is generally celebrated with leather and for this you could give a leather photo album or a leather memorabilia that documents your time with each other. You could also get leather furniture for the guys whose wives have been longing to upgrade the furniture in the house. Leather is the theme here and anything leather tend to go with this theme.

Fruits, flowers or linen is the theme of the fourth anniversary. You may send a basket of fruits to the person whether to their home or workplace and surprise them. You may add a handwritten note that states to this person how you are feeling about them. You could combine a basket of fruits with flowers and truly make your lover's day. Remember that a dress or suit is made of linen and is appropriate for this occasion too.

The fifth year is traditionally celebrated with wood and includes gifts such as wooden sculpture and other art made of wood if the person is into art. You could take the person to a museum that has a large collection of wooden sculpture and spend time learning who the artists are. You could also take a walk in a forest that has a lot of trees (that's still sticking to the theme) and enjoy a romantic time together.

Sticking to the customary theme you'll be celebrating with iron on the sixth year and you can go all out with expensive gifts which include iron fences and gates that surround your yard. You can be more artistic and get an iron sculpture of a historical figure if your spouse is into the art. Romantically designed candle holders tend to make good anniversary gifts and are surely welcome in your package of anniversary gift ideas.
